How We Began
People Helping People
United Kingdom Chapter of Adventist Guyanese and Friends was formed in 2006 when six passionate Guyanese got together to discuss how they could assist their brothers and sisters in Guyana.
As a developing country that has suffered greatly from the historic mismanagement of funds and resources, Guyana, although rich in natural minerals and fertile ground, still struggles to meet the basic needs of some of its most vulnerable population.
UCAG therefore saw an opportunity and since 2006 has provided both financial and physical assistance in the form of bed linen, clothes, shoes, equipment, supplies and food to senior citizen homes, hospitals, schools and orphanages. In 2017 a shoe box appeal was launched which had a huge response, resulting in over a 100 school shoes, books, rucksacks, clothes and stationary being sent to two orphanages. Currently we are collecting used wheelchairs to send to the Georgetown Hospital which is a government hospital in the capital of Guyana.
The work ahead is enormous, but by God's grace, we are moving forward. In just over ten years we have been able to impact the lives of so many people by the generous contributions made by UCAG and friends many of whom are non-Guyanese. We also support other projects in the UK such as Soup Kitchens where annual donations are made for the feeding of homeless people and also recently started a burial fund to provide assistance for people experiencing bereavement. Our main two annual events are the Guyana Day of Fellowship in July and our Charity Banquet which is normally held in November /December. This is in addition to other smaller events we run throughout the year.
We plan to continue to support the orphanages and senior citizen homes In Guyana and also to get involved in other projects such as offering scholarships and adopting classrooms.
UCAG values your support and as our motto: 'People helping people', our joy is knowing that as we have done it to the least of our brethren, we have done it unto Him. God bless.
